Weekly SLIP Problem Info:
SLIP Problem Examples:![]()
Students will receive their weekly challenge SLIP problem on Fridays. They are due on Wednesdays. The first 2 weeks we will complete them in class together to model how they should be completed.
I do ask that parents try NOT to help your child much with the problem solving aspect other than probing them to THINK. I LOVE to see the various methods that my Gifted students use to solve these problems. |
Literature Circles
The Gifted students will participate in Novel studies based on their interests and levels of reading skills. We typically meet about 2-3 times a week during Guided Reading Groups to discuss the novel at the time. Students are expected to complete the required activities, response journal and reading material by the next Meet with the Teacher. Depending on the study, students may receive an additional project related to the study.
In the Reading class students are expected to participate in regular read aloud discussion, but their independent work will be at a higher level and sometimes unrelated to the remaining students in the classroom. These activities will correlate to the Gifted and Talented Standards and Curriculum.

Challenge Spelling Words
The Gifted students will receive a separate and more challenging Spelling word list than the remainder of the class. The Spelling words will contain the same concept/skill being focused, but will consist of more challenging words. Spelling tests are given in a variety of challenging formats on Fridays.
